Dear Parents,

During the Stephens County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday August 18th, the topic of highly recommending masks on school buses and in classrooms was discussed. While no official action was taken, the board expressed support for any bus driver or teacher that has a general concern for their own safety be allowed to require masks to be worn by students while in their presence. Many of our bus drivers and teachers may have medical conditions which potentially makes them more at-risk to a COVID-19 Infection. The Board of Education and Administration is thankful for the willingness of these staff members to continue to serve the Stephens County Community in the face of a pandemic. Therefore, we are asking for parental and community support to ensure the health and care of our staff for those requiring masks be worn by students while in their care. Masks are available in every classroom and bus for students. We understand there may be certain circumstances which may allow for exceptions and you should contact your school administrator to discuss alternate options. The Stephens County School System will work to accommodate these students individually. At this time, there is not a general mask mandate across the district; however, we must work together to provide a safe and productive learning environment for our students and staff.

Respectfully,
Daniel H. Oldham
Superintendent
