Local Growers Market Coming Soon at Eastanollee Cannery

Eastanollee, GA – Residents will soon have an opportunity to sell and purchase local fruits and vegetables harvested by area farmers at the Eastanollee Cannery on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Called the Local Growers Market, there will be no fee to sell homegrown items, but sellers must visit the Cannery to fill out an application and review the rules and policies in advance.

According to Manager Richard Johnson, “We hope to begin the market as soon as gardens start coming in and will announce the opening day as soon as it's confirmed.  Tentatively, we are hoping for Thursday, May 9. The purpose of this market will be for local farmers to have a place to sell and purchase homegrown vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, plants, and eggs. This market will not include arts and crafts, processed foods like jams, jellies, pies, baked goods, and canned items. Sellers will not be required to stay all day as many will have limited quantities and may sell out early.”

Students in Brad Randall’s construction class at Stephens County High School have transformed a shipping container into a shelter to display items for the Local Growers Market. Johnson adds, “The students have done an excellent job transforming the shelter. It looks great and will be useful rain or shine. I’m excited about this market and the service we will be able to provide our local farmers and community.”
